Mangosteen Pericarp
The pericarp or rind of the mangosteen is where the Polyphenols, pigments, tannins and xanthones found. These are the naturally occurring chemicals or phytonutrients that provide the health benefits attributed to the mangosteen fruit. Specifically the Xanthones, a plant phenol are responsible for the wide range of medicinal benefits attributed to the Mangosteen fruit. Mangosteen is known to contain 40 of the 200 known xanthones.
